When you choose our mail-in ECU tuning, you are never locked into the performance file permanently.

The process begins the moment your ECU arrives at our facility for its initial tune. Before a single byte of performance data is written, we execute a full, deep-level read of your ECU's memory. This extracts the exact factory calibration file that your engine was running. This file is highly specific, containing the exact software version and updates applied by your dealer. We save this file to our secure, redundantly backed-up servers, categorized by your name and engine serial number.

There are two primary reasons customers utilize this service. The first is selling the boat. While many buyers see an outboard ECU remap as a massive value-add, some conservative buyers may prefer a completely stock engine. If you are preparing to list your boat for sale, simply mail the ECU back to us. We will flash your original file back onto the unit, returning the engine to 100% factory specifications. The new buyer will never know it was tuned, and it will perform exactly as a stock engine should.

The second reason involves major dealership warranty claims. While our tunes are designed to be undetectable by standard dealer diagnostic tools during routine servicing, if you suffer a catastrophic mechanical failure (like a dropped valve or spun bearing) that requires factory warranty approval, the manufacturer may request a deep memory dump of the ECU. To avoid any potential warranty disputes, you can send the ECU to us first. We flash it back to stock, ensuring the manufacturer sees nothing but factory software when they inspect the claim.

The return-to-stock process is just as fast and efficient as our initial tuning service. You simply contact us, let us know you need to revert, and post the ECU. Because we already have your original file securely stored, we don't need to do any development work. The moment the ECU lands on our bench, we write your specific factory file back onto the flash memory, verify the checksums, and put it straight back in the express post. We typically turn these around on the exact same day we receive them.
